GRANTS COMMITTEE

What is the Homeless Partnership Grants Committee?

Each year Louisville Metro Government, Metro United Way and now a new partner - Kentucky Housing Corporation - work with the Coalition for the Homeless to facilitate the selection of homeless services and projects for Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG), Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and additional general funds. The Homeless Partnership Grants Committee reviews each application and then sends its recommendations to the funding partners for final approval.

What is the role of the Coalition in this process?

The Director of Community Coordination at the Coalition is responsible for facilitating the following activities:

1. Recruit impartial persons to serve on the grants committee.

2. Develop or update the grant application.

3. Inform eligible community agencies of available funding and grant guidelines.

4. Create materials and provide multiple grant training opportunities.

5. Review incoming grant applications for compliance with specified guidelines.

6. Coordinate and facilitate grant review meetings.

7. Notify applicants of award status.

8. Forward grant recommendations to funding agencies.

What is the purpose of this process?

Maintain consistent funding process for homeless agencies in Louisville.
Maintain process that directs homeless projects to the most appropriate funding source.
Increase ability to target community resources to the homeless populations most in need.

What it the typical grants process?

1. All grant applicants are required to attend an orientation training offered in mid January.

2. Grants are received in mid February. All grants must be complete at the time of submission.

3. Committee members, made up of representatives from the various funders and others representing community foundations, businesses and institutions, review the applications and determine the projects that will receive funding, the amount of funding and the type of grant from which the funding will come.

4. Applicants receive notification of these determinations in mid to late April.
